Around this time 2 years ago, I got Lasik eye surgery and it seriously changed my life forever…but not without some side effects. I decided to give you an update and to answer the question: would I do it again?

I just did my LASIK EYE SURGERY this October 8th, 2020. I’ve worn contacts since age 16, my vision was -8 on the left eye, -11 on the right. Best decision I ever made with getting Lasik, my vision continues to improve more and more since having surgery. I still have to remember that I don’t have contacts on.

I just did bladeless Lasik today. They numbed my eyes and gave me a Valium. The Valium, btw, didn’t work for me. I was fine going in. No nerves. I had done my research and watched the videos from the company I had chosen to get my surgery through. I was 100% prepared. My vision was 20/200- bad enough to need glasses to pass a driving exam, but good enough to function day to day without if I needed to.
I chose to get Lasik because I was in a relationship to where my boyfriend, when he wanted to terrorize me when we argued, would take my glasses and threaten to break them. I never wanted this to be a thing again.
I didn’t feel the surgery at all. There was a little pressure. I was blind for less than a minute, then everything came into focus. Right now I have Prednisone drops that I have to use every 4hrs that I’m awake and moisturizing drops for every hour for the first week. Then the moisturizing drops are as needed for the following week. My first recheck is next Saturday due to my working schedule.
I could see just fine immediately. It was a little foggy but I was assured it would clear up. They told me to go home and take a 2-6hr nap. When I wake up, they said the fogginess should clear up and the irritation wouldn’t be bad. I took a 5hr nap- give or take. They gave me sleeping glasses to wear the first week so I don’t scratch at my eyes in my sleep for the first week. And sunglasses for the day.
My eyes are not bothering me at all. They really don’t even feel dry, though I’ve been using the drops as I was told. I’m super happy with my decision so far, and my vision should get a bit better as my eyes heal completely. 🙂

I read about a new technique in which you put some special drops in your eyes at night, which reshape your cornea while you sleep, so you wake up with “perfect” vision and it gradually wears off during the evening as your cornea returns to its normal shape. It doesn’t sound ideal or good in the long term, but at least you could experience perfect vision without having to use anything and without doing surgery.

I heard about the story from Jessica Star last year. It broke my heart.
I got Lasik probably about 4 years ago now. I wasn’t able to wear contact lenses either because I developed an allergy to them. Had I known I would develop an allergy I would have started wearing them so young. But 4 years later and so far so good. I couldn’t be happier.

Thanks you so much for being so candid. I am thinking harder about doing this. I had no qualms whatsoever but now I have had my eyes opened. But I guess I will still go ahead with it. I feel so strongly for that poor lady. That is absolutely terrible. I have no words but only sympathy for her and her family.

I decided not to get Lasik 2 days before the surgery. I have glasses (definitely one beside in case majority of the time) and 1 Day contacts. Life is good. 1 Day contacts are the best because of the following: they are one time use; no need to clean; perfect vision due to being one day use and rewet for vision refresh (2 weeks and month contacts get dirty and lose clarity each day); can come with good protection (night vision, uv, and more) for your lenses; and don’t wear contacts longer than 12 hours (NO LONGER THAN 12 HOURS).

I’m so thankful to have found your video and know that your experience was similar to mine. I’m 7 months in and I’m 20/30 at my latest follow up. I don’t regret my procedure but I wish I had did more research on the outcomes for higher prescriptions.

Totally agree on the sales thing. I was offered to take a deal of $800 per eye but I said no because that would mean I would have a different surgeon. I paid $3400 for both and got the top surgeon. It was quick, painless, and I’m seeing 20/20 with no regrets!

Let me put it this way—

Imagine driving yourself to your follow-up appointment, opening your car door after parking, looking up and being able to see the details of a leaf at the top of a tree.

      Yeah.

      Like that.

I know I’m biased — and trust me, I didn’t want to mess up one of my five senses bc if I lose it it’s gone — but I do hope you decide on LASIK.

The stats/percentages are smaller than how _I_ was weighing my pros/cons (again, bc it’s one of *MY* five senses), but in the end, gosh, I’m happy to wake up and live a normal, active life!

LASIK was the best decision I ever made. Interesting approach by my then-employer though — instead of insurance covering vision, they paid the full bill for any employees that wanted LASIK. You just walked in to the approved surgery center, showed your employee ID and they billed all the screenings, procedures, follow-ups, etc. to my employer’s account.
