Burke Rehabilitation Hospital opened its doors on April 7th 1915. Originally called the Winifred Masterson Burke Relief Foundation, the hospital's earliest programs treated cardiac disease, rheumatic fever and tuberculosis. In 1951, with a strong focus on multi-disciplinary medical rehabilitation, the Foundation formally became Burke Rehabilitation Hospital. Over the years the types of injuries and illnesses that Burke treats have evolved, but its commitment to ensuring each patient makes the fullest recovery possible has remained constant.
Located just 30 miles north of Manhattan, Burke is easily accessible from the entire Hudson valley region, including Manhattan, Queens, the Bronx and Connecticut. Nestled in a tranquil setting of rolling lawns and beautiful gardens, our 61 acre campus remains largely unchanged from its beginnings. This peaceful and serene environment is ideal for physical rehabilitation and healing.
As a not-for-profit hospital entirely dedicated to acute rehabilitation medicine and clinical research, Burke’s mission continues today as part of the Montefiore Health System. Burke is also an ACGME teaching hospital committed to teaching and guiding the next generation of rehabilitation physicians.
We have assembled a world-class, compassionate team of physicians, nurses and therapists who are committed to providing state-of-the-art treatment. Our entire team of medical professionals, including neurologists, physiatrists, internists, rheumatologists, pulmonologists, respiratory therapists, social workers, psychologists, pharmacists, and dietitians, all work together to provide the highest quality of care.
Our inpatient programs include Brain Injury, Cardiopulmonary, Amputee, Neurological, Orthopedic, Spinal Cord Injury and Stroke rehabilitation. So patients experiencing a variety of life changing illnesses, injuries or surgeries come to Burke for treatment. Some of the diagnoses we treat include stroke, spinal cord injury, Multiple Sclerosis, traumatic brain injury, cardiac and pulmonary diseases, Parkinson’s disease, medical debility and orthopedics.
Both the inpatient and outpatient programs provide physical, occupational and speech therapy as well as other disciplines to help patients get back to the life they love.
Our ever-growing outpatient services programs include cardiac rehabilitation, driver evaluation, and home assessment programs as well as Neuropsychology, and memory evaluation and treatment services.
There is never a “one size fits all” approach to therapy at Burke. By integrating several different disciplines, every patient's rehabilitation program is specifically created to fit his or her individual needs and maximize their recovery.
As the only hospital in Westchester County dedicated entirely to adult rehabilitation, we create lifelong relationships with our patients. Our wide variety of community education programs are open to former and current patients, employees and community members. Free monthly support groups, health and educational events, and adult fitness programs give individuals an opportunity to learn, exercise and share their experiences with others.
Throughout the year, we host events to further expand Burke's mission of inclusion for individuals with all ability levels. The Heels & Wheels 5K Road Race and Walk, The Wheelchair Games, and the many adaptive sports clinics we host not only help us stay connected with the community, but also offer opportunities for the public to learn more about our various programs.
Our main campus is located in White Plains, and we have several outpatient rehabilitation clinics located throughout New York, including Armonk, Bronx, Purchase, Mamaroneck, Somers and Yonkers.
