For anyone wanting this done, it looks way worse than it feels.

I was short sighted (couldn’t read a number plate infront without glasses) and had my eyes lasered 3 years ago. I’m pretty much 20/20 now.

You don’t feel any pain at all during the procedure as the anaesthetic eyedrops literally freeze your eye, you can’t even feel the clamp go on to keep your eye open. What I will say is you feel pressure like someone pushing your eyeball when they put the machine on to cut the flap of skin which wasn’t great. When they lift the flap to do the laser your vision goes blurry for a few seconds and you can see bright lights from the laser. Kind of feels like being under water as they keep putting drops in to stop your eye drying out.

They do one eye at a time so you’re never completely blind. The assistant held my hand throughout because she knew how terrified I was. The whole thing was over in minutes.

Afterwards they gave me an immediate eye test and I could read the bottom letters!!! Though your eyes are very foggy, it’s like looking through mist.

About 20 minutes after the procedure your eyes pour with water. My eyes didn’t stop streaming for 12 hrs afterwards. They felt scratchy like I had sand in them and I couldn’t really open my eyes. But there was no pain. I joked I felt like Tom Cruise in minority report.

The best thing to do is lay down in bed with your eyes shut, have some water, take paracetamol as a preventative and try to relax. Having someone with you is a good idea.

The worst part of the whole experience was the week after surgery, not being able to shower or wash your hair or face. You sit there like a greasy tramp, which was awful. But you CAN’T risk getting water in your eye for at least a week in case it gets behind the flap of skin before it’s fully healed shut. Also being conscious not to rub your eyes or sleep on your front was hard for me. I slept like a straight post, laying on my back which was crap.

The foggy clouds gradually disappeared from my peripheral vision over the course of 2 weeks and my sight was perfect.

For me the scariest part was hoping nothing went wrong and hoping that my vision didn’t end up worse. You do have to sign a contract prior to surgery admitting the liability lays with you as you’re aware of the risks etc. The chances of things going wrong are very rare but I was scared I’d be one of the unlucky few, fortunately I was ok.

Thankfully my choice paid off and I’d highly recommend it to others. No more glasses or contacts, no more eye strain, no headaches, no problem swimming etc. It also really lessened my anxiety!

Overall it cost me £2k per eye, which I paid back monthly. £4,000 is expensive but it’s definitely the best money I’ve ever spent.

Good luck to anyone contemplating this ??

TruthVlogs – pretty much impossible to mess up, as it’s all done by machine. The laser literally monitors and follows your pupil if it moves the slightest fraction. The only manual part is the Dr putting the flap back which takes 2 seconds. So if your sight ends up worse after it’s extremely rare and very unfortunate.

Mystical Luna – they do one eye at a time. But the best way I can describe it is like being under water with bright lights flashing down on you. Bit like what I’d imagine an alien abduction to feel like ?

Your vision only goes blurry once the flap of skin is pulled back as it causes things to go out of focus. The second the laser is done, the Dr manually puts the flap back over and you can see fine again. It’s all over so quickly.

I got laser surgery, worth it.
Even though i have a few side effects, like my right eye isn’t perfect and when i look at bright led like Christmas lights, i get a vertical flare.
    But overall, worth it.

Best decision I’ve ever made getting this procedure done. It honesty didn’t even hurt! Maybe a 2/10! The worst part is the 2-3 days after just how sore your eyes are. And btw my vision is 20/15 now!

@ancine manlanot no, I felt just pressure while the surgeon was manipulating with the tools.. some fixator to keep an eye open, some pushing while removing extra liquid as I think. The worst I felt was some cold liquid right after the laser was done. The eye was full of it, and it dripped down into my hair. And when the second eye was done I had some fun seeing how the doctor with some tweezers was gliding that flap back.
